That’s a big “but”, PP. I said $25 to $30. Not trolling st all. We pay $28 for a 2 yr old and a newborn.

What do you mean no breaks? Don't these children nap?

Desperate immigrant? $20 per hour. Educated, experienced USA or European (non-desperate) nanny? $30.

My cousin is the latter and works in San Diego/La Jolla, where rates apparently are higher than the cheapos here in the DC area. She just went from $32 for 2 kids to $35 for 3 (newborn). Preps and feeds and cleans up after the kid meals. Absolutely no other housework; that is the housekeepers' or parents' responsibility. Cousin loves to cook, anyways. Hours 8-4, no breaks -- which is fine as she would rather put the toddlers in the stroller and wear the baby and go out for a long walk more than anything else. She surfs most days after work and the long walks help keep her in shape; she even dropped her gym membership.

Family provides her a minivan for driving the kids to doc appmnts, etc.

Cousin taught elementary school for 10 years, and has a masters in Reading (Reading Specialist). She got burned out being a teacher, social worker, substitute parent. She committed to 5 years of nannying, then will re-assess.

Very mutually satisfying for all parties.

Not for a toddler and a newborn with ten years experience. Not at all high end if paying legally.

I think it costs closer to $23/hr gross to start with a $1 /hr raise per year. Employer pays their part of the taxes, worker’s compensation insurance, etc.

$30/hr for someone with 10+ years of experience. Newborn care tends to pay higher. Hard to find someone who can handle needs of both newborn and toddler.

25 to 30 would be my guess. And that is just experience - no college and no teaching experience. I am assuming you are hiring legally and on the books.

Anonymous wrote:$30/hr minimum with childcare duties only. No light housekeeping, adult laundry or meal prep for adults.

This is the usual rate for a professional nanny.

Better yet, ask to see some evidence of what they pay. Oh wait, most of your neighbors are still paying under the table.

OP, start looking for someone you like. Then you ask about their rates.
