our nanny did not want to continually place/remove the car seats each day. We bought a good used car for her use.

we like the idea of being in control of repairs, cleanings, etc.

I'd rather use my own car. I have good insurance and I am not not tall person so most cars don't fit me well. I have 3 seat belts in my back seat too. Parents have asked for my driving record which is fine. I also sometimes have parents sign a waiver form saying that if something appends while your children are in my car you are fully responsible for their care. MY lawyer told me to do this so I wouldn't get sued if I was in an accident.

If you provide the vehicle, you control maintenance and repairs. If you don’t, then it’s up to the nanny to make arrangements, and you have no say. Also, with your vehicle, car seats can be installed correctly and left; with the nanny’s vehicle, they may be installed each day.

This is how our nanny views it. She doesn’t mind because she doesn’t let them eat, and we reimburse her at the IRS rate. We also give her a gift card for the fancy detail place a couple times a year.

Would love any insight/advice. We've never hired a nanny before, so we're new at this. Thank you!

How old are your kids?

I have a two year old and our nanny drives him in her car (locally). She has a nice safe car with a car seat in the center back seat. We reimburse her for mileage. She has insurance and a really well maintained car and a spotless driving record.

I used to use my car for nannying. Only ran into a problem when they started wanting me to bring kids home for playdates from preschool then Elem. I couldnt fit 3 carseats ib the back of my car. They ended up buying a minivan as a 3rd car.
Just something to think about OP.

If its only ever going to be your kids offer the fed rate fir mileage reimbursement and maybe a car wash once a month.

You should provide your car. I would not want children making messes in my car.

Most nannies don’t want to have their car torn up with car seats, food, drinks, and muddy shoes.

Government mileage is appropriate as that is what the government set the rate as. I wold get a separate car.

Sure. Offer to pay for her insurance and a certain amount towards her car maintenance costs. The government “per mile” allowance does not address the extreme wear and tear of transporting a child.
