Absolutely agree with PP. Last check should be in exchange for all of your property. However, I’d suggest changing the locks, even if she gives you the keys.

How do you pay her? Can you do it by check and tell her she needs to pick it up. Ask her to bring the items when she comes.

A $100 car seat is just fine. Or get a used one from a friend who’s kid outgrew it.

You cannot withhold money from paycheck except for taxes unless agreed to on writing by payee. Try it and find yourself in court responsible for court costs plus interest on money withheld.

You should have gotten these thing back at the time of firing. Your fault.

Bad advice here.
This would just make a bad situation 100% worse.

I would call a locksmith to change the locks.
As for the car seat, I would just purchase another one.

It is likely for the best that everyone moves on from this.

You terminated her. Just change the locks and get a new car seat. Not a big deal. If she returns it it is a good spare.

Our nanny was terminated for just cause and she had left our house before we could ask for her to return our property.

I had asked for her to return our belongings, and she said she would on Monday. It’s now Wednesday and I’ve called and texted - no response.

She has a house key and car seat. I’m guessing it’s time to replace the car seat and change the locks. I don’t think she would retaliate, but it was in our contract that she return all belongings at conclusion of her employment.

I have no interest in filing any kind of claim. I’m just annoyed.
