Ridiculous thread. Everyone LOVES to judge - without sufficient evidence or information, but that doesn't stop anyone.

Two shots of hard liquor before going out to dinner is excessive. Even two glasses of wine is excessive.

So breastfeeding Mothers should be able to consume alcohol and it is okay....??!

EVERYthing a Mother consumes flows into her milk supply.
Some Mothers refrain from onions, spicy foods & caffeine while nursing.
Those that drink liquor while nursing are only setting their baby up for learning disabilities, health issues, etc.

Since what a Mother consumes so easily into her breast milk, many doctors do not prescribe certain medications if a patient is nursing.
So why are some medications not okay - yet alcohol is??!

Let's keep this relevant to the situation here.

OP did not say she consistently sees mom drinking then breastfeeding.

OP saw the mom drink 2 drinks before going out. One one specific occasion.

Maybe the mom "pumped and dumped" and then did formula or previously pumped milk for several feedings after that.

I'm not sure how your post matches your headline.

The baby doesn't sleep or nap well - that's a problem to work on.

Everything else sounds like judgment or attitudes based on things not written.

Alcohol must definitely can affect a child’s ability to sleep. Just ask a pediatrician.

New poster here
But the example OP gave is of ONE night when the mom was about to head out on a date, she witnessed the mom having two shots. OP did not say that she has witnessed any drinking on other occasions.
So for her to conclude that "the mom's drinking" is effecting the baby's sleep is baseless.

Your extreme defensiveness is concerning. Please reread OP’s question and then reread my response.

“...moderate alcohol consumption by a breastfeeding mother (up to 1 standard drink per day) is not known to be harmful to the infant, especially if the mother waits at least 2 hours after a single drink before nursing. However, exposure to alcohol above moderate levels through breast milk could be damaging to an infant’s development, growth, and sleep patterns.”

“Alcohol levels are usually highest in breast milk 30-60 minutes after an alcoholic beverage is consumed, and can be generally detected in breast milk for about 2-3 hours per drink after it is consumed. ... alcohol from 2 drinks can be detected for about 4-5 hours... blood alcohol levels and the length of time alcohol can be detected in breast milk after drinking will depend on a number of factors, including the amount of alcohol consumed, how fast the alcohol is consumed, whether it is consumed with food, how much a mother weighs, and how fast alcohol is broken down in a mother’s body.”

She’s drinking two shots just before she leaves for a date night. Unless she’s feeding the baby right after she tosses the shots back, she’s leaving and is probably gone at least 4 hours.

1. The child’s alcohol intake in negligible after 4-6 hours.
2. You aren’t the parent, not your business unless she’s drinking then pumping (and then it’s not your business to tell her what to do, you can either call FPS if she’s endangering the child or just show her a site like cdc).
3. The child’s sleep issues likely to have more to do with the amount of milk the child gets at one time versus alcohol content. Some kids just can’t get enough milk to sleep more than a few hours.

Google is your friend.

But since that seems difficult, NO.
It's also ZERO of your business what your boss puts in her body unless it is somehow affecting your job, which in this case, it's not.

But please, let's make sure to police breastfeeding moms.

If anything, the drinking would help the baby sleep.

Many women drink wine & still breastfeed.

It is during pregnancy that drinking can damage a child.

I have been watching a nine mos. old since August of this yr.

Baby does not sleep ALL night nor does she nap very well during the day.

My MomBoss exclusively breastfeeds the baby.
I noticed this past wk. that she also drinks.
Example: When babysitting for a “date night” recently I saw the Mom do two shots prior to leaving.

My question is this: ->> Could the Mother’s drinking of alcohol while nursing affect this baby’s difficult sleep patterns?
