That’s not the point.

Part-time positions have high turnover. The lower the hours (and pay) and the kids “expectations,” the higher the turnover is.

Especially with only 2 hours. Expectations should be limited to being on time to pick up, calling in with plenty of notice on the (very rare!) occasion they can’t make it, keeping kid alive and keeping house in same condition they found it

Homework, helping him clean room, provide snack or dinner, shower and what ever else you want to include.

His homework normally falls at the end of the week (We will need her on a Tuesday). He does have to read each night though.
I don't and can't expect her to play imaginary fighting games and battles with Lego characters for all that long. Hopefully like you say, they will come up with something to do together.

An 8yo is capable of putting LEGO together by himself. Same with reading to himself. And I’d never suggest that you ask a nanny to play a violent game, but if he can play himself, fine.

So, just look for a sitter who will supervise and let him do his own thing. You never know, once they get to know each other, they might come up with something. But it’s only 2 hours each week, so don’t expect too much.

Besides, doesn’t he have homework? Surely that should be done first?

I wouldn’t expect anything but childcare unless previously discussed.

It's only a one afternoon a week job but would be needed every week.

Depends. Babysitter or nanny? If it's a professional experienced nanny I'd expect him/her to entertain/teach a little everyday. If it's just a babysitter then not much.

Of an after school nanny looking after an 8 yr old boy for a couple hours after school?
Would you expect the nanny to entertain the 8 yr old for the whole time?
