Please define your view of formal vs informal.

My charges have always called me Nanny or Nanny First Name. My most adorable current charge, just 14 months, calls me Nan. So sweet!

I love all of the respectful ways that children can learn to address the adults in their lives. No child should be allowed to call an adult “David” or “Susan”. If a child calls me by my first name, I either correct them or ignore them.

New Englander PP from above again. Our friends, who are Jewish, call their nanny Mora Mary. Mora means teacher. I think that’s so lovely, too.

Coach First Name, Miss First Name (teachers and ballet teacher), Nurse First Name, Dr. First Name (he prefers it) and Nanny First Name. Kids call anyone who works for us in the house (weekly housekeeper and gardeners) Miss, Mrs or Mr.

We aren’t from the south either - it’s just the way we were both brought up in New England.

I’m called “Miss Judy”. Children addressing adults by their first names just isn’t good manners. Don’t you want the nanny to help your child learn proper etiquette?

Teachers, too?

We aren’t from the south either and our nanny is from the UK and the kids call her Nanny Mary. In fact we all call her Nanny Mary.

A sort of baby version of her name - and now we all call her that nickname and she signs cards and inscribes books to my DD with the nickname.

Her first name. I’m not crazy about it but thought it was the nanny’s call. It does sound “cheeky” and rude to me too.

My charges call me a name my oldest charge made up for me which, strangely, is nothing like my actual first name! Like “Bonnie” and my real name is Karen.

It’s pretty cute!

Having my baby grow up calling his nanny by her first name seems too cheeky to me but Miss First name sounds too formal.
