I'd be looking for a new job and as soon as I found it would give you notice as soon as check cleared.

It depends on the tone and relationship.

If she is ready to come to work there is no fair way of not paying her. You are going to lose a good nanny if you try this nickle and dime crap.

Would you like it if your boss told you
Don’t come in tomorrow, we don’t need you
But you won’t get paid

Did you read the post? This is not what was suggested.

This is cheap imo. And I am not a Nanny who thinks we should get everything served on a plate. But PT sitter are hard to come by and it makes our day to have a few hours off and not lose money over it. I would have just told her not to come in and pay her anyway.

You should pay them the full day if you are canceling and they are scheduled to work and are available to work.

The better strategy would be to say nothing, have her come in and do a few hours work (you run errands, go to the gym, spa..) and then send her home early with full pay. Everyone likes to get to leave early, you get time with your kid. And you don’t put her in an awkward place. Or just pay her and let her have time off.

It doesn’t suck if they’d like to have the day off and don’t need the money. Just be direct like 12/17 12:22.

Honestly- she’s getting 2 weeks off paid. I’m ok not making it 2 weeks & a day.

If you'd prefer she not come then just tell her you decided to take the day off, won't need your help today.
If you want to give her a choice then just tell her you decided to take the day off to spend it w/ DC. And see if she asks about skipping work.

Our wonderful afterschool sitter is, well wonderful.
As part of our agreement she works snow days when OPM isn’t telework.
I took off today anyway though.
What I want to communicate to her is that she can absolutely still come in & get paid! But if she wants a day off (unpaid) I can cover it.
So I’m just trying to give her the choice.
How do I word this/message it?
