You need to have backup plans. Our long term nanny told us she was definitely coming back because she needed to work, but she didn’t come back. She also called in sick a lot during her pregnancy. Like a lot.

First, talk to her. Find out what her plans and intentions are. She may not even want to go back to work.

Also decide what you want. You have a lot of unanswered issues ahead regarding coverage for the countless school holidays, sick days, aftercare, and summer coverage. Your nanny will not be back to work at the start of summer if she delivers at the end of May regardless. You will need back up care.

Also, it it an option for her to bring her baby to work should she want to.

Sounds like you need a backup plan for when she is out on maternity leave.

Has anyone been in a similar situation? She’s due May 30, so right before school ends (our kids get out May 29). We have a K and 2nd grader. We weren’t sure we’d be keeping her for next school year but definitely thought we’d have her through summer. Just trying to figure out how to navigate this so any thoughts are appreciate. Her current contract goes through the end of August and it’s based on guaranteed pay for certain hours and then overtime for additional. She has leave but has used all but maybe five days because she took quite a bit at the beginning of this contract year.
