That you can’t afford a typical hourly-wage bonus is understandable and nothing to be ashamed of. But to say you don’t find it necessary to give a bonus of thanks to the woman who care for and loves your child is very telling of a bad employer and unkind person.
Believe it or not, one or two weeks salary is absolutely standard - and has always been standard - for household, hourly employees.
Your “yikes” made me feel so sorry for your poor nanny. I hope she reads enough English to read your post.
