I don’t know of any job that restricts WiFi access. And my MB hands me the remote control when I arrive and asks me if I want to watch anything on Netflix. I’m the one who chooses to keep the tv off all day because I’m trying to reduce my screen time overall. You sound like an insane micromanager, but more likely a troll, cause this is crazy!!! If you try this level of micromanaging with future nannies, you won’t find any who will stay. Good luck finding childcare! Maybe you should just stay home if you’re that concerned with how much attention is being given at home.

I would just pay her severance pay & let her go now.
Once an employee gives notice to her employee, then it is highly likely that you will not want that person w/your child as that person will likely neglect your child out of revenge.

I wouldn’t leave my child alone w/a Nanny I just fired.
She will be miserable which wouldn’t bode well at all for my child.

Yes, notice for sick time I did not have in my contract.
We did a formal review and told her that her punctuality needed to improve. Yes, I asked her about ruined things, she never lied but never apologized.

She cooks supper and takes home supper everyday.

Our tech time and duties are all in the contract with exact details. I continually mention my concerns but she doesn't care; hence the termination.

Thoughts:
It sounds like you didn't have a very good contract. You should have some of these things in the contract.

-If she was late 5 minutes every day, you should have SAID SOMETHING TO HER.
-A good contract will say how much notice to give on a sick day if at all possible.
-Many nannies are allowed to run personal errands on work time, because they are working beyond the typical 9-5 and otherwise they could almost never go to the bank.

-Did you ask her about the ruined things? Did you ask her about the sneaking food home? Are you talking about her taking home an apple from the fruit bowl, or a bag of new chips from the pantry?

-Tech time: again, your contract should have said this. If you noticed it was a problem, why didn't you say anything?
-Laundry: SAY. SOMETHING. TO. HER.

It wasn't cold at all today. You sound like a massive pain to work for, but she sounds like a terrible nanny. If you get another, vet them better and have a clearer contract.

Just hire someone else. She's butthurt.

She sounds lazy and like she doesn't care. Now she's pissed you're letting her go. I agree with giving her severance and getting rid of her sooner. If you can swing the money and the loss of childcare for the rest of these days.

Pay two weeks severance and let her go now.

Hi Everyone,

I would appreciate some advice.

I employed my nanny six months ago. Everything was great at first. She offered to do extra things, kept the house tidy, spent time with the kids, etc.

Fast forward six months later and these are the issues we have had:

-Every day she is five minutes late.
-Calls in sick every month. (Only gives us one hour notice from her scheduled time.)
-Has asked several times to do personal things on paid time. (Bank, grocery shopping, etc.)
-Has slept in several times and has been late.
-Has damanged expensive house items without apologizing. (Burned table, wrecked a towel set.)
-Sneaks food home without asking.
-Continually lets kids watch tv even though we have told her no tech time during the week.
-Leaves laundry for me to put away. (We pay 2.5 hours for housekeeping everyday when the kids are in school.)

Recently, I have had my hours changed at work so we no longer need a nanny. I gave her 30 days notice and then she calls in sick that same week.
The next day she asks to take the kids to an appointment and I said no. She is scheduled to be off on Monday.

She came in today and has attitude; refuses to take my son to the park because it is too cold.

I am beyond frustrated. She is acting strange and I do not know what her problem is. I pay her above minimum wage and reimburse her for all field trips/mileage. I let her bring her son when he is off school and during the summer.

In my contract, I have to give her 30 days but I don't feel she is being fair. I do not know what to do anymore...
