You don't want an aupair to be on your car insurance on day 1. Make alternate arrangemets, just in case.

In many countries, you buy an international driver's license without any actual driving experience needed.

We hosted 8 au pairs. I would say roughly half had zero of the advertised driving experience when they arrived.

I am sorry to hear about this.I know what you must be going through.We are a first time Host family and completely put off with this host family arrangement.Our insurance covered the APs international license (not sure of the authenticity based on APs feedback on how easy its to get a license in her home country vs. in the US) but just charged us a higher premium.Her name does not appear in the insurance card as yet until she gets her US license.The AP was not truthful about her driving experience despite us asking her multiple times at interviews and letting her know how important driving skills was for us.The AP is still working to obtain her license after in-person driving tutorials.I called the agency/LCC about this and they didnt really care, and indicated it was our problem and unfortunate that we got an inexperienced AP.

Not normal. State farm covers international. Our AP had been in a NIGHTMARE with DMV (shes a German) trying to get her Virginia license and USCIS flagging her immigration status. Have called insurance to double check coverage and they have told us multiple times under our umbrella policy she is covered.

Exact same problem with our AP from Germany. We are in DMV USCIS beauretstic hell deal with a bunch of idiot government wokers.

AND She had been here since Aug 1 and by law should have a virginia license. This was fully tested. Someone smashed inlo her last week. Cops came insurance was involved, the car is fully covered, other drivers fault. The international license was a non issue.

Check your insurance again - SHE can't be covered until she has a state license, but most likely she would be covered driving your car as someone borrowing your car. There is a time limit to how long someone can be "borrowing your car" without being on your insurance though.

My Mom has visited from England and was covered under my insurance while she was here, with only an International lic. I would call and check again.

Depend on insurance. Travellers doesn’t accept international DL. She can drive your car though until she get US DL. She is like a visitor using your car.

Not normal. Our insurance (geico) covered our Swedish au pair with her intl drivers license
