$40hr... She shouldn’t be making less than $26:50 for 2 anyways

I would probably offer $28 and be open to negotiation. Whatever the rate, it should be divided into 2/3 and 1/3 so that the family with one toddler gets a bit of a discount since their child will be getting less attention with the addition of the baby.

Two toddlers and a newborn is a heavy load, though. I would seriously consider moving my toddler to daycare and getting a new nanny share for the baby.

Where I live (suburbs of DC), $23 is about right pay-wise for a nanny share - taking care of two toddlers. So if that is where you are located, you may want to ignore posters above as they are probably not located in the same area. I would say the family with the newborn would need to pay about $4 per hour more.

If I was the family without the newborn I'd find another share.

Pay $30 an hour. $10 per kid. Family with two kids pays $20, family with one pays $10.

Our current nanny share will have an additional kiddo (a newborn) starting next summer. So that means the nanny will take care of 2 toddlers (2.5 and 3) and a newborn. We have a rate in mind, but I’d like to know if it’s reasonable for the area. We currently pay $23 per hour for 2 toddlers. Thanks in advance! ?

If you pay $23 for two kids, I would take the per-child rate of $11.50 and multiply it by 3 - she should get $34.50/hour.

^^

Yes, but she negotiated more time off in place of higher pay. At this point in her life she values time over money. She gets 5 weeks paid time off, plus all Federal holidays. (She travels a lot.) If she does work a holiday she is paid time and a half, negotiated in her contract.

With her background, she could easily command $32 an hour for one child in LA.

Where are you located, OP? I agree that $23 an hour is very low. Ask the share nanny but I would suggest at least $5 more per hour or you’ll lose her. Even if you live on a low COL area, $17.50 for two kids in one family is a bargain.

Another child, $11.50/hr. Why would she only charge $3/for a newborn?

Well I already think your $23/hr for two kids is low. That’s only $11.50 per family. For 3 kids, a smart nanny should be making at the very least $30/hr in a share. I couldn’t imagine making less than $25 for two kids. But I’m also educated and experienced.

I think the person adding the newborn should pay another $2-3 per hour. But you really need to ask the nanny, I’m sure she has an amount in mind.
