I hired for a position like this a while back due to health issues. Despite paying top end of whatever the nannies asked for (which was also high end of typical rates in the area), people were generally very unreliable and we had to have 3-4 people to get even 80% coverage. I think because it’s part time weekend hours so this is supplemental spending money rather than primary income, people only want to work if it suits their schedule, and aren’t willing to flex their plans and schedule around the job to the degree they would for a full time or weekday job.

All that to say that while a one-off weekend job shouldn’t require much of a premium on rates, a consistent weekend position might actually have a huge premium because most students want to go home or travel over school holidays, and people will cancel if they have plans to see a concert or family is in town visiting, etc. What do you actually value your weekend time at? What would it take for you to feel it’s worthwhile to consistently schedule your weekends around this job, rather than the other way around?

There are lots of college students who would love that position. I would think $25/hr.

BTDT. We had three college students in a row - none lasted more than a few months and were frequently “sick” (hung over from Saturday night) on Sundays.

I think $30 an hour is reasonable, at least in our area, for two toddlers and a baby.

For three young children of that age, I would say about $25/HR.

Thirty would be ideal since you also have a teaching credential.

I wouldnt go so high that they decide to go with someone cheaper. I would do $25 an hour. Thats $225 cash in hand for the day. Not bad. The 2 year olds will take a nap at the same time I assume.

In LA, $30 for three young children on a weekend is cheap!

3 kids. B/g twins age 2 and a 6 mo baby. About 45 minutes from my home. 9 hours on sunday. I’m having a hard time figuring out what is a good hourly pay rate for this. Only would watch the 3 kids. No housekeeping or cleaning unless baby related. I have 5 years experience with ages under 5 and have worked as a nanny and I’m currently a teacher.

Any advice for pay rate? I live in a HCOL in the west coast.
