Put out an ad, talk to the family over the phone and then set a time for all 3 parties to meet in person. The family has to get a feel for the nanny and the nanny has to get a feel for the parents and their child. Then, you and the nanny should have a convo and talk about whether or not you both feel this new family is a great fit.

You also need to think about what happens if you don’t find a family and see how long the nanny can afford to be paid a different amount (I assume less), during this time. I would be looking for another family now tho. Don’t wait until the other family’s last day to start looking.

If you intend to give the nanny 100% veto power on any new family you choose, be sure to have an understanding with the nanny about what happens if no family is found.

We went through this and were very up front with the nanny at that time that all parties would need to agree on the arrangements and new family. We had a timeline for consideration in place that allowed us to make a decision before the old family departed. We also had a provision in our contract on who was responsible for paying the nanny if a gap were to happen. All things to consider when getting into this. . .

Yes, you find the families and have your nanny with you during your initial meeting/interview.

Spin off from the thread about taking a pay cut when a nanny share family leaves. A lot of posters said the remaining family should find another family for the share. We're about to go through this exact scenario and I'm wondering, how involved should our nanny be in finding the other family? We would do all the leg work of course, but I want her to feel comfortable with the new family and charge. Any practical advice?
