No, he won’t! Not if handled sensitively and properly.

The photo book is a great idea. So is FaceTime with the former nanny. Talking to your child about how much Nanny 1 loves him and will visit/call will help.

The only way losing a nanny is truly traumatic is if she simply disappears and if she overheard or senses that the parents hate Nanny/angry with her. That challenges the child’s belief system and security.

You really need to find a way to limit transitions. Can you do the new nanny first and then move two months later? Or move first and keep the current nanny for a few months, then either new nanny or school, then the third transition?

Do you have any ideas how to best prepare for this transition?
It will be a new location, new nanny, and he’s never been to school before
He loves my current nanny, though she’s been with us only a few months.
They do tons of stuff together all day, and I’m worried not only will he miss her, but also the places they visit every day.
Thank you I’m advance!

This is heart wrenching for your little boy. Did you ask the current nanny if she could temporarily stay on after your move to ease all the upheaval? Maybe find her nearby lodging? How far away are you moving?

You can make him a Shutterfly book of pictures with his nanny and places/friends he used to visit. Ask the nanny to start talking about how great the new house will be and how much fun school is. I love the book “Maisie Goes To School” because it’s such a happy book.

Are you moving so far that his nanny can’t visit?
