Or even answer my phone while baby is awake.

Being monitored is not for everyone.

Real question is what do you have to hide. Most workplaces and businesses have them. Every restaurant and shopping store has them. You can sing, dance and act silly.

Do you sing, dance and act silly in front of your workplace cameras? I’m more proper and reserved if someone might be filming me.

This. She will probably get the message that she is being watched though, which I think is just fine.

Real question is if you don’t trust your nanny why did you hire her?

+1. I have zero problem with cameras. You forget about them anyway. I think Cocoon Cam is better than Nest.

As a parent, I see the appeal of the cameras. There are so many scary things happening every day in the news. It would totally give me peace of mind to see that my kids are ok.

It would have driven me crazy when I used to babysit to be on camera all the time. I would feel like I was being watched constantly (because you are) and I would feel like I couldn't sing and dance with the kids because I am self conscious. It would just make me uncomfortable.

So obviously, I see both sides. Have you thought about trying to work from home for a few days? Just to get a feel for what is going on?

If she already said she was ok with cameras, then you have that going for you if you decide that's the way you need to go.

We'll be having other contractors coming to the house to complete some housework, so we've decided to install cameras so we can make sure everything is going as planned. Just wanted to give you a heads up.

My current nanny job I’ve been with the family for 10 years and they don’t have nanny cams when I babysit for other people they have cams and I really hate it so much. I feel like I can never just sit for a minute and recharge, even when the baby is sleeping. So I just go in the bathroom for like 20 mins with the baby monitor and literally sit on the floor to escape the cameras. Or we go to the park and I sit on a bench for 5 mins just to have a minute of peace from the micromanaging nanny cam. Not sure after my current job ends I will be a nanny anymore with this new nanny cam micromanaging trend. It makes our job so miserable.

If she says no to anything she is likely considered mean. No you can't have a chocolate pudding for breakfast. No you can't run naked in the street.

If you don't trust her, then you should not leave your children with her another day.

My boss just put them in one day, never mentioned it. No problem, it’s their house! We now play outside all day. I don’t do anything wrong, but also don’t want to be monitored all day. After the cameras were put in MB started emailing me micromanaging things, so now I just avoid the cameras. In the winter we’ll be going on lots of outings.

We had a new nanny start a month ago and while she seems great, my older child (who is 3) has said a couple things that concern us - like “sometimes she makes baby brother sad and he cries a lot”, “baby brother’s crying hurts my ears” or “sometimes she is mean to me”. This could be something or it could be nothing, but we wanted to get a couple Nest cams so we can get a better look at what’s going on while we are at work. Most of our friends seem to have them and love them for many reasons.

Anyway, when she was first starting she asked if we have cameras and we said no. She said she is fine with them but would just want to know about them. If we get them now how do we broach the subject with her without making it look like we don’t trust her, which of course is the reason we are getting them in the first place?

FWIW - We have tried asking the nanny about the baby crying a few times and she said he has been fussy - which could be the case - but he seems totally fine when he is with DH or I so not sure what to make of that. More than anything just looking for peace of mind that even if the baby is crying she is handling it in a nurturing way.
