Assuming a normal share where both families are regularly with the nanny, you all sit down. You and the other family agree on one week that you have in common where nanny can have off. Nanny picks another week of her choice that you two respect. Those are the two paid weeks off. Then, any other time you take off, she only has one child / family but you still pay her (same if other family takes another week). In our share, other family hosted most of the time but nanny had been to our house. We did not host often because we have two dogs and it was stressful with the two babies. Less stressful when just our baby, since dogs are used to her. So nanny would go to other family’s house for the times she only has their kid.

Some families really feel they can never have the nanny at their house/apartment (usually wah in an apartment). In that situation, they need to be agree to take their vacation when you take yours or let the nanny care for the child at her house/apartment.

OP I would assume that she would work at the other families house while your family is away. The other family should understand this even if you are hosting usually.

Nanny needs to get at least 2 weeks off from both families. So if she gets to choose one week then you and the other family need to coordinate another week that works for both of you, easiest is pron Christmas/New Year week. Otherwise even if you take 4 weeks off she is not off if the other family need her.

as though you are an indentured servant? Please propose this to your nanny and see how fast you are looking for a new share.

I don't think that's what OP meant. Just the logistics of there being another family (the other part of the share) if ops family isn't there, especially if OPs family does the hosting.

Absolutely not. You cannot throw another family into the mix. Nanny agreed to work with your child and the other child. Not a third.

as though you are an indentured servant? Please propose this to your nanny and see how fast you are looking for a new share.

If the other family CAN’T be in their home, ever, it needs to be discussed in the contract, and more than likely, the child will be at the nanny’s house/apartment when the hosting family is gone.

Looking for advice/experience on nanny share logistics for holidays. We take a lot of holidays (at least 4-6 weeks out of the year, usually over major holidays) and would plan to offer the nanny an additional week of their choice. Not sure how this works with a nanny share and would appreciate any insights.
