MB found temporary work with a friend of a friend. The family has a little girl who is undergoing cancer treatment. I went to meet the family and to discuss pay and as soon as we started discussing pay the mom looked surprised and upset and told me my MB promised them I’d work for a very low wage. Like $300 week for 50+ hours. I felt trapped and really bad for this family because they clearly are under a lot of stress so agreed.
When I confronted my MB she got a bit nasty with me and made a very rude comment insinuating I was heartless for thinking of money when this family had a very sick child. I got upset. I said yes, but I was put in a weird situation. It made me feel bad, and also won’t allow me to find other positions and really sets me back for the month.
Why do families do this?
Are you regular employers paying you while they are away?
Regardless, I will never take a referral from any current employer. Way too much drama.
