I work with 2-teen, and my phone has the family calendar, daily schedule, daily list, series of alarms, Waze, Pandora (minimum usage is every car trip!), contacts for play dates, etc. If we’re at an activity, I snap pictures and they upload automatically to Dropbox. Kids FaceTime parents and other relatives when they want, provided that time fits the schedule. My employers text me to bring them their gym bag, dress for after work function, close the window, etc. I have emails come in several times per week about changes to the schedule, sometimes day of and with little notice before, in action to birthday party invites, activity sign ups, at least one email per teacher per week, etc. I purchase everything for kids, much online, and do numerous returns when kids change their minds.

I rarely initiate texts/calls/emails though. That’s usually my employer. And if I don’t respond within ten minutes, there’s an emergency and I will call to explain the emergency as soon as it’s under control.

Why would language be a barrier? Shouldn't the ability to communicate in a language you understand be a TOP consideration when you hire?

American Nanny...logistical texts 3x a week and occasional photo. She doesn’t keep her phone on her person (in her bag usually in the entryway) so I don’t expect an immediate response.

American. On average a pic a day. Sometimes she will reach out for a question or to update change of plans. Yesterday she texted to let me know DD's class had been canceled because the teacher was sick so they were going to X instead.

I rarely text her unless its to coordinate something (sometimes DS has an afternoon activity that I may meet them at for handoff). The last non coordinating text I sent her was last week when I asked if she could shut the window in the office because I'd left it open and it was going to rain. I don't really expect any type of response time.

American nanny. She never texts me unless she is answering my texts.

Our nanny is American. She generally sends one picture of my son a day. Nothing else.

How often does your nanny text you? And how quickly is response? Is language a barrier ever?
