This is not true for one and two, we don’t know if dad is around and could help for an extra hour.
Anonymous wrote:Op, honestly I wouldn’t have spoke to your boss about your car until the end of your work shift. I would have arrived to work using the metro or car service and then when she got home (or dad) tell them about your car situation. You could have said something like:
Hey, so I didn’t want to miss my first day but my car broke down. I wanted to see if we could work together on a plan that maybe I could come in a hour later on Wednesday, so I can drop my car off in the morning and that way (god willing) it will be ready for pickup over the weekend.
You would just have to pay to get to and from work or you may have gotten lucky and they would offer to pay or split the bill for using public transportation thanks to you trying to do whatever you could to not miss work. This is a learning lesson and don’t feel bad. Talk to your boss tomorrow and just say I didn’t mean to put you in a panic (if I did) about not having child care, I was just trying to get my car fix ASAP so that I wouldn’t inconvenience you guys- then maybe (if it works for you) tell her something on the lines of what I said above.

You can get hired for a new job, then wake up with a horrible flu on your first day of work.
Or your dog may be ill and need to go to the vet clinic ASAP.
Or your car suddenly decides to go kaput.
Ask anyone.
We have all been in scenarios such as these - or similar.
Including your new employer.
Ask for the day off, use it to have your car repaired.
The fact that you will be losing a whole days salary shows just how dire your situation is.
