also, do you realize that it is much more difficult to manage children for just a week because it takes about a month or more for the kids to adjust, and for new nanny to learn about the child? They were probably giving her super hard time with everything and she was just exhausted.

As a parent I would never trust my child with random nanny for a week or a day, or hour, agency or not. I would not care about dishes or anything else either. Toddlers are particularly sensitive to transitions and changing caregivers constantly is something that creates problems in long run for that child. For goodness sake, you got substitute care, paid a ridiculous price for it, kids are well and you did not miss any work days, just get a good permanent nanny and move on. Daycare would be the worse at any rate.

OP, talk to her or leave her a list.

Talk to the agency as well.

You say you only pay eight dollar$, how much do you think she makes total?

These all factor in.

She works 8 hours /day and the $8/h is a copay, like your insurance copay where you pay $30 and the doctor get another $90 to $$$$. I am sure my company pay at least twice that amount additionally. Not sure how much she gets to pocket but I am pretty sure she is "well" paid. I think she comes from agency such as white house nannies or similar. I don't care if she unwind using her phone but hard to look pass that when the she leaving a mess behind her. Anyway good to know this not common. Next time I will know what to expect.

I am a career nanny and my family has used a couple of backup nannies, only one has come close to bringing what I bring to the table, but what you are describing is insane. I would directly ask her to clean up after the children and leave the house as it is found. Is this service through your company? Maybe they need a review of this nanny.

People like you gives nanny a bad name, putting plate in the dishwasher and wipe the table where you put baby food is for maids? It took me literally 3 minutes to do that while she was on her phone when my kids are sleeping. And she will expect a 5 stars review? I will give her a 4 because I am nice person but really she should get a 3!

Cleaning up after children you care for is part of being a nanny. A maid is entirely different and not at all what OP is expecting. The nanny sounds lazy AF...but I'm sure you are too.

Normal. They do just care of the child. A regular nanny will do kids clean up, kids dishes and meal prep, kids laundry and basically “leave the campsite as you found it”. Back up care, in my experience, is just literally watching the children and keeping them alive. I was never so happy to have our wonderful nanny back after two weeks of back up care.

My company offers backup nanny services where you get a nanny and pay a copay of 8$/h, they pay the rest.
So I got a nanny for this week because we are transitioning childcare. I work from home sometimes.
She doesn't clean after the kids, the dishes are just left on the countertop, the high chair and dinning table are a mess. The kids do a two hour nap, she just seat there on her phone while I come down and clean after the kids. Is that normal? How can she just leave everything a mess around the kids and just be on your phone for 2+ hours while the kids are sleeping? cleaning would take 10 minutes!
I would think she would at least leave the place the way she found it? btw this are toddlers.
Anyway this was my first backup care nanny and I want to know if this is normal?
Next time i feel like I should get a nanny for the hours until she put the kids to bed and I will take over from there.
