Can you afford $500-800 a week for child care. Being a mother is easy. Its not a hard or demanding job. Its not equal to being a mother as mothers, in most situations do far more than a child care provider.

Wow being a mother is harder than being a nanny? It’s practically the same job- coming from a mom. We cook, clean, change diapers, do crafts, attend appointments, arrange activities, care for sick child, kiss boo-boos, sing, read etc., the only difference is for a few months (if your lucky) you have to wake up in the middle of the night and I get to go home at the same time (if I’m lucky) everyday. We are with the children anywhere between 9-12 hours a day and then you throw in another child? I love my job and I do it well. I’ve been a teacher in daycare as well, and honestly, being a nanny is a lot more demanding. All of the families I work with call me their child’s second mom because they know what it entails and how much their kid loves me. I, however, don’t ever cross those boundaries and I’ve had families who literally don’t even see their child until the weekend when everyone is home together.

And all that I just stated is why you can’t compare a nanny to daycare and why typically, a career nanny who knows her worth gets paid accordingly. If you want, I’ll let you know what these next 2 families offer during my phone interview tomorrow.

This made me laugh. First off, all lawyers don’t make that much and I went to medical school: I attended Grey Solan Memorial in Seattle. Now, shut up! I just told you how much daycare is in our area and even if it $1600 per month, I need the extra $100 they’re trying to short change me. You also didn’t read further comments. I told them my rate upfront and they acted as if it worked for them.

No, that is way too low for two infants. Those parents need to look into daycare.

+1. Not everyone can afford a nanny. That is way too low for two babies. Why would any nanny accept that when she can earn equal if not much more for one child?

This is a well known troll. And nannies today, those with college genres especially, are causing this once low paying profession to rise. Why not complain that preschool teachers should simply become lawyers and doctors rather than demand more pay. What about your public school teachers? Should they just become doctors and lawyers and shut up about their pay?

Nursing, teaching, childcare... basically all traditionally held female professions are lower paying. And that has zero to do with the importance of the profession to our society.

I would never consider a job like that either, OP. Don’t give it a second thought and go find a better position.

Share care is at least $25/hr in this area.

Most people pay to have a nanny for the convenience and flexibility that daycare doesn’t offer. That price is low for two 3 month old babies. We can agree to disagree; I’ve never made less than $25 for shares and I’m definitely not about to start. It’s annoying because I said my rate upfront and they made it seem as though it was feasible- I don’t want my time wasted and I don’t want to waste yours.

I just spoke with a potential share families who thought they’re were going to pay $375 (PER FAMILY) for 2 newborns for 40 hours a week. What the hell? Y’all have go to stop. In these areas, daycare will cost about $500. If you can’t pay that, at minimum, for a share, you can’t find afford childcare, so call grandma! Rant over!
