OP here. I’m planning to ask for $5 and take $2-$3 after negotiating. Im already paid pretty well but I do a lot of additional tasks (think nanny-housekeeper rather than just nanny) and I know some of those tasks will start to decrease as I’m more busy with the baby.

I would ask the next time you see your bosses.

Let them know that you charge $3–5/hour more for an extra child, especially a newborn who is a lot more on your workload.
I.e., constant feedings, diaper changes, spit-ups, laundry & soothing if the infant is colicky, etc.

You need to discuss before you begin caring for the new baby and the contract needs to be updated and signed. Also inquire about duties as well, like laundry (if you don’t already do this) etc., that will depend on the increase. In the past, I’ve asked for $3 and an extra PTO day.

Hi everyone. My boss is due with her second child in about 6 weeks and I was wondering if some of the other nannies or bosses more experienced in this may be able to help me. I’m currently caring for their 2.5 year old full-time, and will take full charge of the baby when my boss goes back to work. What is an average raise for the addition of a newborn? When should I ask for the raise (before or after the baby)? I would assume before, so they’re not stressed. I’m just so unsure. Thanks!
