I have a dieting au pair too. claims she is working out and watching what she eats, and then we find Wendy's bags in our garage trash can...

You can afford an au pair but not food. Rofl. This is the dumbest discussion. Make more food. This thread should end here

Like my AP who ate almost all the shrimp out of the creole before we got to it and it was just a big bowl of vegetable sauce.
I hear you, OP.

I prepare food in advance for several days sometimes, so would definitely be annoyed if AP ate a lot of something for another day. Maybe you need a policy for telling your AP that they're welcome to polish off leftovers but shouldn't touch prepared food planned for a dinner that has not occurred yet.

If she ate the main course and left the sides, that’s annoying and rude (she may honestly have not realized she was being inconsiderate). If she simply ate a lot, she probably is always more hungry than you think and you should be making more food. In the future, portion hers out of she’s not eating with you. Life isn’t perfect, especially not with an AP living with you, get over it.

It doesn't make sense to come here and complain about it.

You need to tell her you were annoyed.

I would see it differently : your meal was so delicious she couldn't help it ... Relax, it's just food.

I'm sure there are other things bugging you ...

Are you my cousin who will make 1/2 a box of pasta for four people and declare it enough food since the box says 8 servings?

Let me guess. The AP is usually on a “diet” but chose to go to town on the food when alone?

Sounds like she ate 3 servings of the main course only and left the side dishes that you had planned to round out the meal? I could see that being annoying. I agree that the thing to do if she is eating earlier is to buy some cheap bento-stylr lunch containers and set aside a portion of all the dishes you are serving.

I probably did not calculate as as well as I could have, but I also would check in if I were in her shoes.

Clearly, it was not. Next time, just make more.

I don’t know, if one serving each is not enough for the family that includes kids, maybe servings were too small to begin with? How many servings did you expect AP to eat? 1 obviously not enough for an adult according to you specifically, so 2 was appropriate, and she ate 3... would that extra serving been enough for the family?

Why is she eating before the family? Next time just take out her portion in advance.

Dear au pairs,

If you are eating a meal that I prepared for the entire family and will be eating before the family, please don’t polish off three servings for yourself and just leave one serving each for the rest of us. That is peak inconsiderate behavior.
