Absolutely! Also, what happens if they bank a ton of hours and then you want to quit and they try to demand that you either pay them back or work for free to pay off your "debt"?

Never, under any circumstances, agree to banking hours because this is shouting "WE ARE GOING TO SCREW YOU."

It’s not even legal to do this. Banking hours is illegal

I previously worked for a family who made this request and it ended up being a way to manipulate and control me and my time. They would come home an hour earlier here or there, at the very last minute not need me to work, etc. The hours built up over time and it felt like never ending debt that was constantly used against me. They would ask me to babysit on a Saturday and when I would say I had other plans they would make it clear to me that I’d been”given” time off earlier and I needed to say yes. When I left I owed them close to 60 hours and it was a nightmare trying “pay” them back.

If you are otherwise ok with the rate you could ask for something like not more than 12 consecutive hours at anytime and with prior notice. So if you work 12-6 on a fri and they want overnight you can be off by sat am. Otherwise on a weekend you only work a day shift or night and not both.

This, over two months they can get close to 80 hours or expect you to work 2-3 days non-stop. No banking, straight job and if you can work more, ok.

They wanted me to stay with their children whenever they will travel only parents .
Also they wanted me to work on weekends too.
So they could use me banking hours.

I’m confused too. I would NEVER agree to anything of the sort. They pay you for the time they need, with guaranteed hours. When they want additional coverage, they ask you if you’re available and pay you accordingly. Don’t over complicate it and don’t put yourself in a position where you end up owing them a lot of your free time. Nope, not a chance.

Actually, NVM. Same poster, so if they’re banking 8 hours a week it comes down to $21/h which is I think the $800 is reasonable IF you are ok with them throwing on those hours another day. Which seems to me they’ll use them on the weekend most likely? You never said what days they want you to work but I assumed M-F.

I wouldn’t agree to it bc I prefer not to work weekends and I actually have a life besides working.

I would say no. They’re paying $800 for 30 hours a week is $26.66. So it’s unclear how many hours they should bank as oppose to having an hourly rate.
