This really depends on where you work and ages of kids. I'm a mom, and I live in the suburbs and have a part time nanny. When I need to drive my kids to after school activities, I need to drive from my house to their school (15 minutes), sit in carpool line (time depends), then drive to their activity (20 minutes), then drive home at the end of the activity (25 minutes). That is just how far things are in the suburbs. On my days off I also drive to the grocery store, sometimes have to pick up or drive another child, or drive to an errand. If you don't like driving, don't work in the suburbs or for a house that requires driving. 3 days a week when I don't have a nanny I'm in my car a lot!

About 7 miles, so 15 mins or so. Previous job I moved and commute went from 20 mins to 1.5 hours sometimes bc of traffic! It was terrible. I ended up quitting bc the said they couldn’t pay me anymore so more of a reason for me to go.

I had a soul-sucking commute in my last job and then a school drop off and pick up 20 minutes once I got to work. My employers were petty, pathetic people but I loved my charge so I stuck it out until the end.

Now I walk to work, walk my charge to activities every single day and have truly never been happier!

Sitting in traffic is a true hell for me - I am just not the type. If you are like me, OP, you should find a better job.

My commute is about an hour each way. I am free to go wherever we want during the day. Sometimes we just walk to the park. Today we drove to a splash park.

My last job was easily, including my 45 minute commute, a good three to four hours a day. In this new job, I insisted on being able to walk to work and all activities. I am just not a suburban nanny.

just curious...

Im finding Im in the car nearly 4.5-5 hours per work day (including sitting in carpool here and there) because of activities being spread out. how is it for you guys? My last family I was pretty much able to walk where we needed to go. Feels like Im not able to do much with my charges.
