Have a friend call your references and see what they're saying.

After a brief phone conversation, I would agree to meet them in person.

Then after that, I would supply them w/my references.

Because providing them before meeting people face to face means you likely are giving them out prematurely to complete strangers.

I live in SoCal and for nighttime sitting, if the child(ren) will be asleep the majority of the time, I may charge $15/HR.

Your rate isn’t that much at all.
I’d talk with your refs to see if they have any insight to share.

Well, you can only get what the market will bear. Maybe other nannies in LA are lying.

Good question about whether or not they are asking for your references; I, too, am very cautious about handing out my reference information. The point to my question above is that they may say they are interested, but if they’re not calling your references, then they may not actually be interested. Of course nannies are making that, hopefully more, but people don’t see the value in hiring someone experienced for babysitting. That’s just the reality.

Op here. I don’t want to lower my rate. I’m in LA sand most nannies here claim to make $20/h or more. I have experience and training. It could be possible they’re not calling my references. I have no idea. I work full time so that’s why I really don’t care much that they turn me down but i would like to babysit here and there to pay off student loans faster.

We are in 2019. $20/h is perfect rate. I charge $18/h and I am about to change my rates to $20/h too but I don't really need the money I already have 2 jobs. The babysitting is my third one.

It is likely that people don’t want to that pay for a babysitter. When I have the time and want extra income, I lower my rate to $17/18 per hour and often hear how expensive I am. Currently I am not particularly interested in more work but will when approached. My normal rate is $25/hr for my minimum number of hours (2-4, depending) and $20 thereafter. I have not had a single person want to pay that for babysitting. Are they actually calling your references?

Maybe your references aren't saying as good things as you thought they would then.

Wow, I meant rate **** not Tate or date

So I post on a local nanny group about being available for date night babysitting. I have gotten a lot emails. I give them my date and references to checkans so far no one has asked me to babysit. I’m wondering if it’s my tate or what my references are saying. I never had any bad blood with my references and no issues. I’m asking for $20/h. Some people don’t text back at all when I say $20/h. Others say it’s fine and I give my references and never call or text back. Any suggestions or tips on how to actually get people to meet with me at least? I always text to follow up after a week but they don’t text back.
