We do $15 an hour for babysitting (outside of 45 hours or just when it is a long week and we need to go out at night).
We always make it a choice and honestly all of our AP's have been happy to have the extra cash.
I would think the same principal would be fine if you have an extra kid over.

This is similar to a play date, and she’s within hours. So friend paying is nice, but not required.

This is a dangerous precedent to set. I’d give a nice gift, not cash and dinner of her choice as long as it’s kid friendly.

Honestly, when you're an AP you're happier with a few bucks than a nice gift.

And then you want $$ for any kind of extra. Which is why a gift is better for this kind of situation.

You can't make her watch other kids than yours just because your friend can't find a babysitter. Au pair is there to watch YOUR children. Check your contract and stop abusing her and this program.

PP here. I didn’t realize she’d be under her hours for you. $10/hr from your friend.

If she's within the 45 hours, then she doesn't have to be paid by you but a little extra $ given by your friend will be appreciated

Former AP.

If she’d be over the 45 hours? Do not do it.

Definitely within the 45h. Thanks for all the input!

We are going out to dinner with another couple who are coming in from out of town and also have a 4 yo son. My friend was having difficulty arranging for a sitter, and our AP was interested in earning extra cash for childcare. I think my son would actually enjoy having a play date with my friend’s son. If she were to watch both kids, how much would be a reasonable rate to reimburse her at?
