I've also seen those adjectives and don't care much for them but how does one ever get a job without them?!

This plus wash dishes and cups from breakfast, lunch and dinner, bathe children if we're running late from work, and work with children to pick up their toys and make sure the playroom and the children's rooms are picked up. Our nanny doesn't do laundry and she doesn't cook. I meal prep for the whole family. We do not want or expect her to clean up after us nor deep clean the children's rooms.

Here in the Midwest it would be very unusual for a nanny not to clean up after the child (and herself) or to not help with child laundry. That said, your nanny can set whatever expectations she wants in looking for a position, and given her expectations, she may be better suited to governess type (older children who can clean up after themselves) or fully staffed household positions where there is a separate full time housekeeper. If that is not your situation then it’s simply not a good match. But your expectations are very reasonable and within the realm of what many nannies do.

OP here: Just to clarify, I would never expect the nanny to clean up after me. I would, however, expect the nanny to clean up after my children when they are in her charge. The nanny I interviewed very clearly stated that it was not part of her responsibilities, thus "the development nanny" comment (and she came with rave reviews and impressive credentials)

Interesting. I live in West LA and many nannies do children’s laundry, dishes and tidy up their rooms.

I feel like you may be misinterpreting what you heard. I think that most nannies absolutely clean up after themselves and the children while on duty. Some nannies may not do children’s laundry, but I think that is rare. The nanny will not clean up after your mess (children’s mess when you’re in charge), clean up after you, and certainly not do your laundry. Most nannies will do any and everything related to the children.

Does your nanny cook your child's dinner? Or does she play with your child while you prep dinner?

Searching for a new nanny, I couldn't help but notice that every single ad/referral out there mentions how amazing/wonderful/phenomenal their nanny is. Of course, "good" means different things to different people. I recently had a phone interview with a potential nanny that seemed to check every single box on my list, until we got to specifics and I was told that she is a "child development" nanny, which meant I can go clean up toys after my kid myself. My question is, if you believe your nanny is great, what are her day-to-day specific responsibilities?
