Not OP. I feel like I want our cleaner to do a proper thorough job on a regular basis and AP as any family member is responsible to keep kitchen and house up to shape. Cleaning up after oneself is not work hours, it's part of being housemates and mutual respect. Don't know why but APs and husband also, seem to take this way more seriously when the work that results in a clean house is done by paid cleaners.
OPs AP obviously comes from a family where somebody else was doing the cleaning. Any reasonable adult wouldn't have to be told to keep out of the way. I really hope this is the only bad judgement issue with your AP.

Your AP is being ridiculous. Tell her to stay out of their way or be responsible for cleaning the kitchen herself.

Op: Thanks for the input and the suggestions on how to articulate this to AP. I do think it mainly out of respect for the cleaners who are there to get their work done thoroughly and efficiently.

I dont think you can ask her to leave the house but I think you can stay to stay out of the way and not be in the kitchen when they are.

Why not change that to "stay out of their way" - that would definitely be a reasonable request.

I have it in my handbook. Don't use the kitchen while cleaner is there.
Also that we are respectful in picking up anything on the floor (shoes) or sitting on the counter the day before/after breakfast. I ask to do as we do. Firstly because it's disrespectful to the cleaner. Secondly because it causes more hours.
