Target shooting is a recreational activity.

For some it should be a learning experience.
Others may do it as a hobby.

Just because a Nanny visits a gun range does not even indicate that she is going to purchase a assault rifle.

And definitely does not mean she will bring it to work.
She just may have participated in a fun, group activity.

Some people enjoy target shooting. It's actually quite relaxing, IMO. There is nothing wrong with going to a range with a friend. Why would you be upset that someone went to a range? How is that bad? Just because you don't get it, doesn't mean that it's not smart to go there.

I agree that you shouldn't be friends with your employer on FB, and this is one reason.

While shooting ranges are usually for fun/entertainment purposes (I went to one as a Bachelorette party!), some people attend who need to get certified to purchase a firearm.

I think your boss is super paranoid.
It’s like she is thinking you are going to purchase a gun, then bring it into her home & carry it concealed to be safe from an intruder.

Tell her you went for recreation and to socialize.
If she cannot let it go -
Tell her to stop watching so many Lifetime movies and then give her your walking papers.

She was way out of line and you should tell her that what you do on your own time is none of her business. Also, you never buy your meat and potatoes at the same store. This means that you are not friends with your employer!

Intelligent adults should know some basics about gun safety. If you don't, you'll just freak out when you see one.

Imagine your 13 year old child going on a camping trip with their best friend, and freaking out at dinner time when they built a fire because you taught your kid to be afraid of fires...

Yup! This is good! I’m not pro gun, and I’m also not anti gun but I am pro gun information. My DH enjoys shooting, when we first started dating he gave me a info session on guns. And I feel way more comfortable around them now. (OP, I’m like you, it’s too loud and big for me). I’m a firm believer that a car can be more dangerous than a gun, if the gun is in correct hands of some one and is stored safely.
While I do understand your MB concerns about the gun issue, she asked you about it and you said nothing was to come of it. If she contuines to make side remarks about it, say “well it was a one time thing, nanny friend and I tried it and it just isn’t fun for us. We thought it would be a good way to be informed on gun safety, and you know I would never do any thing to harm the children”

Make sure in the future you have your settings set where you must approve what you are tagged in and is posted on your wall. Not much you can do now.

You being friends with your boss and having a public profile page is wrong in my opinion. Going to a gun range for the experience is not.

I have been a Nanny to my current employer going on six years this summer.
Two adorable boys, seven + three.

Anyway, for another Nanny friend of mine....
We went to a gun range to celebrate her big 3-0 a few weeks ago.
It was purely for fun only.

The place is very clean, modern & safe.
A lot of people go to gun ranges to learn to shoot which is why we did.
Plus it was something I have never done.

Anyway my friend posted a video (16 sec) of me shooting and tagged me in it so my employers saw it.
My profile is public plus we are friends on there as well.

My MomBoss sent me a text a few days after the video was posted + began asking me if I was planning on purchasing a gun in the future.
I responded that No, I never will.
She then asked me if I would be taking this up as a hobby.
I thought she was actually joking - but she was not.

I clearly told her that I went as part of a friend’s birthday celebration.
That I only actually fired 3x because the whole experience made me afraid.
The loudness, the strong power of the weapon, etc.

I said I have ZERO interest in guns which is so true.
Especially after this experience, I am terrified of them.

Since then, she has been making off-handed comments to me like how she she thought it was very inappropriate for two Nannies to visit a gun range, how
she has never handled a gun, etc.

I am seriously going nuts!
Help!
