MB here with a wonderful nanny like you. I’d want you to stay on as long as you were feeling comfortable and healthy. There will ideally be a transition period between you and the new nanny that should be planned but I would do that much closer to desired last working day.

It sounds to me like your employers baby is due several months before your baby. If I was in your boss's shoes I would much prefer to keep my trusted nanny as long as possible and then make a change.

A 4 month old baby is much easier to take care of than a newborn. I would find it much easier to change to a new nanny after the new baby was out of the newborn stage and its not like the baby will have a problem adapting.

I would phrase it this way when talking to your boss - that you will be happy to help with the transition to the new baby and to then help train the new nanny.

Pp how do you plan on hiding your pregnancy? I’m fairly sure your employers will know that you’re pregnant well before you tell them.

Op, I am in your shoes as well. I will be 9 weeks tomorrow so my due date is in October. I do not plan to return after the baby because I want to spend time with my baby and I don’t want to commute. I am going to tell them I’m pregnant but I will not tell them my plans about not returning until a month prior to my last day, which, if I can make it will be in September so I will plan to tell them late August. I love my charges too but I am not in a position for them to kick me to the curb before I’m ready. Whatever the notice requirement is in your contract, that’s what you give. Ours is 2 weeks but I will give them a month. You have to think about you and your baby and I’m sure you’ll need every dime up until your last day. You are not doing anything wrong by not telling them your plans to quit right now.

I agree with the temp job poster. A week here or there, especially through an agency, can get you through.

OP, Do a search in the jobs and careers forum.

Tell them when you can afford to be let go. That's just how these people are. Believe me.

Talk openly and honestly to your employers. You want to do what is best for your charge. You can always pick up temporary jobs.

Hi, I'm a nanny for a wonderful family and I'm 12 weeks pregnant. I don't plan to continue working after my baby arrives (which is far in the future), but I want to continue working as long as possible. My concern with that is that the family I work for is also expecting their second child in a couple months and as much as I'm relying on the paycheck right now I want the best for the kids and I think that might be finding a new nanny before the baby comes so that he isn't bounced around as an infant and to keep stress down for my boss. But, like I said, we're really relying on my paycheck for the next few months to meet the savings goals we'd like to meet before the baby comes. What do you think is the best course of action and when should I tell them I'm pregnant (looking for nanny and parent suggestions)?
