I am in MD but I had to prove I applied for 3 jobs a week. I applied for nanny jobs on craigslist and that was good enough.

When I collected unemployment many moons ago (okay maybe 8 years ago), I had to go online and fill out a survey that basically asked if you applied to jobs, how many and where. You must report your actual hire date and not the date of your first day, otherwise, you will owe and accrue “fraud” interest.

I was not contacted for verification, but it is completely random and you absolutely need to be prepared. I paid for Care.com so I could use families there as hunting verification.

Not in DC, but when I collected unemployment I was called in twice to prove I was searching. I was also told I couldn’t search just for nanny jobs. I collected unemployment for about 5 months.

I have a question to nannies who have filied for unemployment before in DC. Do you really have to keep records showing you are looking for a job? Has anyone been called for an employment search verification review?
