Uber doesn’t interact with your child beyond verifying they are the rider, they don’t make sure the kid has their backpack, and they’re frequently unsafe drivers. Also, that is prime time for drivers, including Uber!

Gas cost and the normal hourly rate of 15.00 an hour.

Something to remember with a gig like this is that the person you hired is committed to your family for every afternoon, five days a week. She can't get a haircut, take the dog to the vet, get her oil changed, get her teeth cleaner, go to the doctor, get a job other than this gig for you, etc. Her whole afternoon is carved out for this commitment to you. For $20 plus expenses.

And what you wrote above is why I think $20/hr (even plus mileage) is not enough. Unless the person has to be in the area of the school around that time anyway, there is no way $20 is worth it.

Poster at 13:00 you are replying to. I agree. I got to thinking about the reality of the time commitment after I posted. I had a gig like this. I had to pick up the girl at school at 2:45. So . . from 1:30 to 2 I was finishing up whatever I was doing at my own house. From 2 to 2:15 I was getting ready to head out. 2:15 to 2:45 I was driving to the school. Kid was at her home by 3:15. I was back home by 4. So it was really a two hour commitment out of the middle of my day. So yeah, I agree that $20 even plus mileage is not enough.

50 cents a mile from the driver's home to the school to your house and back to the driver's home, plus $20 an hour.

Did you ask the driver, OP? $20 a day is extremely low, I agree.

OP here, we have someone already, she not a mom from school. I really don't think $20 is enough.

This is a hard position to fill, OP, and even harder to keep someone good on the position.

I would try looking around your neighborhood for a housekeeper who is off at 3 or so. Good luck!

30 minutes each way, means whoever is doing it will actually be taking about an hour to do the job--driving out to the school, then driving your child home.
In the middle of the day.

$20 is way to low to make someone committed to that gig. $50 is even on the low side.

I feel $50 is too much though.

If it’s a mom from school, $20 per day, or maybe even $10, if your kid is super quiet and kind.

If it’s someone who is just doing this because they’re paid to pick up your child? Most people need that time period, and you won’t find anyone consistent for under that. The alternative is a car service or Uber.

I would say $50 per day. So $250 a week.

We will need a driver to drop our son home from school everyday. It's a 30min drive. How much should I pay for that?
