Please never use “mommy” - you’re a grown woman. And DH is a pediatrician and far more soothing to my children when they are ill than I am. And when we were new parents, our calm, Dear nanny was far better at comforting our newborn after his first shots than we were!

I don't think it's weird. We have one in full time preschool and one baby who is under his nanny's care. If the preschooler is sick, I stay with her of course. The nanny goes about her day as normal.

Not true. My older son always wants me ( the mother) when he feel sick but my second son, who is very close to me, only wants his nanny when he’s sick. Go figure.

And saying “a Mommy’s touch” is pretty gross, PP. You’re a mother.

Pp here. I’m a nanny, and I can frequently get kids well faster because they behave better/don’t argue with me about doing what’s best for them when they’re sick. Once they’re better, we go back to asking questions about how and why things are done the way they are.

If you can swing it, it makes for a better day for the well child. If it's a burden work-wise, don't do it, or just do half a day.

I usually was able to stay with the sick child at least for a few hours so the well child/children (I have four close together) could get out for a bit, then the nanny would bring everyone home and they'd play there.

I always stayed with the sick child since I could work from home while s/he napped.

Trying to plan ahead... in a scenario where one preschool age child is sick (vomiting, not just a cold) and the other child (also preschool age) is well, is it weird to stay home to care for the sick child while the nanny cares for the well child and goes about their regular day?
