I posted above about letting APs crash and I've had exactly the same experience. I love having orphaned APs stay with me. All of them were focused on moving on, not trying to cause the old family any problems.

She had a mental breakdown, and she’s hoping to adjust well to a new family? Sounds like a disaster. Do yourself and AP a favor, and don’t commit to housing her for more than the obligatory two weeks.

That’s a long time. Make sure your agency doesn’t try to get you to house your ap any longer than what you agreed upon

They have two weeks to find a family from the time the rematch paperwork is posted on your profile online. If they don’t find a family, they’re sent home. Sometimes an LCC or the agency will give them an extra week to help them out but I’ve never heard of 5-6 weeks.

How long do au pairs typically have to rematch and find a new family? We recently decided to leave the AP program after 2 unsuccessful attempts (5months, 7.5 months) after AP2 had a mental breakdown during a friendly check-in with our LCC. We are giving AP2 3 weeks to stay in our house to rematch but she seems to think she has this time plus an additional 2-3 weeks during which she’ll stay with the LCC or at another AP’s house. Is 5-6 weeks common?
