you have to do what is best for you and your career.

just be professional when you resign and say you wish you could give more time, but your new job needs you immediately.

A lot depends on how long you have been employed by this family.

Because there would be a huge difference between three months and three years.

Let your boss know as soon as possible.

Be prepared for anything.

A “Good luck + I wish you well” would be wonderful, but try to keep an open mind because she may feel put out.

Either way, at least you will know that you did the best thing for yourself in the end.

Because only you will look after YOU.
No one else will.

Best of luck to you.
Hope it all works out well w/no hard feelings whatsoever.

It’s highly possible that they will get a temp from mpr or another agency and search while trying to work from home. What does your contract say about notice?

Doubt it. this is only the 4th week of school for the year, so kids already went through that adjustment and now another is coming.

Are you really starting at this "new job" in 2 weeks time or can you push that to a month and help your current job better?

Op here. This is not another nannying job. It is still related to children, but not nannying. Contract states 2 weeks. I have to start on October 22nd BC they are short staffed.

Anonymous wrote:I recieved a job offer out of the blue through an old friend of mine. Start date is October 22 and I accepted it.
I am dreading tomorrow as I’ll be giving my 2 weeks notice. I know this isn’t nearly enough time to find a suitable replacement. However, this job offer is much better for me in order to advance my career.
Has anyone been in the same boat? What do I say? I have my BA and when I was hired I told MB I wanted to be a nanny long term, but now things are different. Any tips/advice on what to say?

Is it another nanny position or something else, related to your BA or whatever?

Help her find temp care from your nanny network.
Write down any info about what each kid likes to it, likes to go, likes to do, etc.
Tell her as soon as possible.

Life throws curve balls. Your first priority is to yourself. Give notice and she'll probably get in a huff and tell you to leave immediately.

Two weeks notice is usually the norm, unless additional time is written into your contract. Let her know that you enjoyed working with them, but a better opportunity unexpectedly came up. Maybe let her know you didn't seek out opportunities, but now that this presented itself it is better financially. If you're comfortable, you could offer to help her find a replacement. Good luck with your new job!
