Nannies do children’s laundry, that’s part of the job.


Some nannies do - not all. I work for a family with a full time housekeeper who does the laundry and a chef who does all the cooking (including lunch for me, the housekeeper and the gardener).

MB here - I would never ever expect my nanny to pay for a ruined outfit. They're kids clothes! Don't buy expensive stuff if you care that much.

Pap here. I did order a new dress, it was only $17 and told MB. She laughed and told me that I absolutely didn’t have to do that! She didn’t even remember which dress it was or where her child got it!

Still, I wrecked it and was happy it was on sale!

I would appreciate the offer but would definitely tell my nanny not to worry about it. Mistakes happen. I once didn’t realize there was a red pen with no cap in the dryer with a brand new Hanna sleeper. That was a sad day.

I would not expect a nanny to do this at all. If I make a mistake at work that costs my company money, I do not reimburse my company. Own up to the mistake, tell your plan for avoiding the mistake in the future (even just - sort whites more carefully), and move on.

As an MB, I would not want you to. It happens. I've ruined clothes too. I don't buy them things that would make me upset if they got ruined (clothes wise)

Just tell the MB and DB and mention the sale. I doubt they will make you pay all of it. everyone is lucky more whites didn't turn dark.......

whatever you do, don't hide the dress or not say anything. Just be upfront about, apologize and make sure it doesn't happen again. And say that.

+1. I would be annoyed if it were brand new or her favorite dress or something, but, you know, these things happen.

Ask your MB. If she is a decent, reasonable person she will tell you to chalk it up to experience. I once put a dress with white collar and cuffs in with reds-- mistakes happen

Sure. But first (since it's ruined) try a bleach bath. 1 cup of bleach to 2 gallons of water. Swirl it around for a couple of minutes. The pink might bleach out. If it does not work, then you can buy another. Some families might not care and tell you not to worry.
