I am a Nanny & prefer driving my employer’s personal vehicle.

But I wouldn’t necessarily decline a position if I had to use my own.

I would just like to be paid a flat gas/mileage fee since I personally find keeping track of miles round-trip to be a pain.

But that is just me.

I know this is not the question, but as MB I was WAY more comfortable when I gave the nanny our car to drive. Yes, it costs more but well worth it:

1. You don’t need to worry about nanny removing car seats over the weekend and not installing properly
2. Your car, you maintain it. You don’t have to worry about what suggested maintenance or recall your nanny might have missed, and if her breaks are OK.
3. With 3 kids, no worry about kids being comfortable/having enough space. It fits whatever your nanny needs like strollers.
4. If you have concerns about nanny’s driving, you can consider whatever communication/monitoring equipment you like (with full disclosure, obviously).
5. Don’t need to track miles
6. Set whatever rules you like regarding food, music, electronic devices.
7. Your kids won’t forget their favorite stuffy over the weekend in nanny’s car

After a year my employers leased a n SUV for my personal and professional use. They cover the full lease and insurance.

It’s the best!

You can deduct the mileage from your taxes. Obviously that isn’t sufficient, but it is something. Though, you don’t have to accept a position that doesn’t pay mileage. I did when I was younger and nannying in school.

Employer’s, BY FAR! But I will drive my own, with mileage paid. I think it’s nice to offer annual (at least) cleaning as well.

My nanny has always driven her own car and we reimburse her at the fed rate plus give her money to detail/clean her car twice a year. Given those circumstances, would you prefer driving your own car or driving your employer's car?
