Congrats to you for being proactive. This kind of initiative will save you lots of money (by removing the need for an agency) and lots of heartburn over a shrinking timeline.

Although you may be a tad bit early, it never hurts to plan. I agree, just prior to due date is a good time to make postings and begin interviews. Do all the hard work now like setting up an ironclad nanny agreement; Checkout library books on hiring household staff/nannies; fed and state tax compliance.

This gives you time to work through many options and to have plans A, B, and C fall through.

I veto looking on here for a Nanny.

I find a lot of snarkiness + immaturity on this forum.

I highly suggest you lay out the money for a good Nanny agency in your city and have them advise you better.

Start looking before due date. As someone suggested, have the start date be a few days before tou go back to work

Most great nannies have a new job lined up sooner than that. I would suggest looking starting just before your due date.

You can start looking during your maternity leave. I would suggest having a week or so while you are still home of both being there.

Know what you want in a nanny and act fast! The good nannies are hired so quickly that we lost two by waiting one weekend to decide!
