I agree that the first family sounds like the better choice. It seems like they really have their shit together. They’re being upfront about all the possible hours and their package is just miles better. Yeah, the baby is tough for bedtime and the pay is a little lower, but I believe in the long run you’ll be happier with family #1, especially since you said you actually like them a bit better.

As others have said, there’s no sick days offered with the second family. That means that every time this kid gets you sick, your pay will suffer if you need to take a day or two off. That’s wrong.

Also, the second job gives you the minimum hours, with the possibility for more. I feel like if you agree to that (even though at the moment it’s only 1-2 hours extra), they’ll try to push that into more and more unplanned hours.

The few extra dollars an hour and a sleep trained baby aren’t worth the crammed vacations and you being shorted once their child gets you sick. Unfair.

I would do number one, its 3 extra week of vacation a year. You may be able to get the baby sleep trained, at least for naps while you are there.

very true. try to ask for 5-7 sick days

3 sick days is fine when you’re getting 5 weeks of paid vacation. OP said she will sometimes have to work the full 50, but my guess is they are guaranteeing those hours because their wage is lower.

I did the math and job 1: $47, 520/year is what I got. you have sick days and 5 vacation.

job 2: $52, 416/ year. no sick days and only 2 weeks vacation.

as a nanny, I think you should go with 1st family. since they offer sick days and more vacations. I find that 2 weeks is not enough for a nanny and assuming you choose job 2, next year you won't have vacation until October.

Then go with number 1. It’s about a $100 difference in pay but at least you get more time off (that would be nice since you’ll be in school).

OP here. I liked the job 1 family better, but feel I can work with either. I don’t live in DC, so pay is and living costs is not as high here.

Hi. Which job would you choose.

Job 1 - One infant, $18 per hour. 50 hour week ( guaranteed 50 hour week pay), but will only needed to work 42.25-45 most weeks. 5 weeks paid vacation
(week of Thanksgiving, week of & after Xmas, week in March, and week of 4th of July), 3 paid sick days, and all holidays paid. Baby ( 3 months) has sleep issues ( rocked, held for naps).

Job 2 - One infant, $21 per hour. 48 hours a week ( guaranteed 48 hour week pay), but will sometimes need 1-2 additional hours a week. 2 weeks paid vacation ( one in October and week of Xmas), and paid holidays. No paid sick days. Baby ( 5 months) is already sleep trained.

Both jobs are about the same commute time. I plan to take a couple of classes ( nights and on a Saturdays) to finish my prerequisites for nursing ( August 2019).
