OP here. My MB is a great mother who has a full time housekeeper. Motherhood and cleaning do not always go hand-in-hand, PP.

Confine the kids to their rooms, bathroom and the kitchen. Alternatively, keep the kids out all day. Otherwise, something WILL happen.

Anyone this stupid deserves what she gets. I had a white chair before having children and after the first one had it reupholstered in a neutral beige that was washable.

Are they slip covers?

MB knew the risk when she decided to buy all white furniture with a toddler. Continue to do what you’ve been doing and you can suggest they buy those plastic table covers- those really work, to use doing art activities. However, I wouldn’t break my neck- why must they make life harder?!

One of my MB’s decided to keep allowing her toddler to use their glass plates and glass Tupperware, and after about 6 broken plates and no Tupperware left, she finely decided to get her child some plastic plates and bowls- which I suggested after the first break.

My current employers run a very adult-centric house and we do messy art:
1) at a little wipeable plastic table in the kitchen over a drop cloth
2) outside
3) inside of a big moving box (extra large ones are $2.50 at uhaul. I keep some folded flat at the back of the closet for rainy days).
4) In the bathtub.

If I have a kid who is not listening well, I keep a cheap ikea high chair and will strap them in until sibling/messy supplies are all cleaned then clean the kid up.

Throw a bedsheet over it during the day.

Shoes off as soon as they enter house. Wash hands after eating. Maybe try painting outside. Make sure they understand crayons and markers only be used when sitting down. Also ask your MB if she has any tips to keep the decor clean.

Seriously, my charges are 4.5 and 2. The new rugs all are light colored with white yarns and the couches are off white - even the one three feet from the kids art table. What was she thinking?! There is only so much I can do with “please take off your shoes” and rushing them to the bathroom every time we come home to wash their feet. And I am 7 million times more anal about keeping the kids hands clean and food only at the table then they are.

Why? Just why?

Anyway, any of you nannies have any suggestions on how to care for active, outdoorsy kids in a white environment?
