OP here. Yes, the housekeeper was here on Monday (put everything away) and on Tuesday there are four pairs of shoes in a small foyer. Yes, I am complaining. It is also clothing and papers.

OP here. To clarify, the house is clean and they are not dirty. MB is just sloppy with her clothing and shoes. Right now, while my charge is napping, I am looking at four pairs of shoes! I have to come up with a solution...

Nanny- it's a slippery slope. If you start complaining you will get asked to clean up.

Believe me, your housekeeper tells everybody that you are a slob. There is no excuse for ever leaving your house in a mess for your nanny.

NP here. We try not to be too sloppy but for example we came back late Sunday from a trip and our stuff was everywhere due to not having unpacked / and not having energy to clean after traveling all day. It’s the nature of working in someone’s house , if you don’t like it get an office job.

I despise working in dirty houses. It creates a stressful working environment for sure.

Just because it's their house doesn't mean the nanny should have to put up with working in a pig sty.

Don't touch their things. Their house, their rules.

My MB and DB are sloppy too. They leave their shoes, jackets, backpacks, etc all over the house. I typically just put the shoes away because my youngest charge crawls. Don’t mention anything though. It’s their house. If you’re embarrassed of having people over, just put the shoes and jacket in a closet or leave them in the master bedroom, but just don’t say anything. Maybe they’ll get the hint.

Nanny here. I know it sucks but it’s her house and she can leave her items wherever she wants. You are way overstepping your boundaries as an employee to feel you’re entitled to tell her to clean up in her own home. Come to work and do your job, that’s it.

Not dirty - my MB just never put her shoes away or anything else away. The DH is fine. Once a week, a housekeeper comes in and does their laundry and puts all their clothes, shoes and dishes away. Now that my charge is having playdates over at their house, I feel embarrassed that the house is always in such a disarray. When my MB comes in and takes off her jacket, for example, it is on the back of the living room couch and stays there all week until the cleaning person comes and the same with every pair of shoes she wears during the week.

Is it ever appropriate to talk to the MB about this? I wouldn't mind putting her things away for her but I never go into their bedroom and it just feels like I would be overstepping.
