Our nanny has guaranteed hours of 40 that are split by both families equally. Any time over 40 is paid at time and a half by whichever family is using those hours (so our portion of the share rate is $11 and time and a half is $16.50). Any hours requested outside of the share hours are paid for by the requesting family at the single child rate (which happens to be the same as time and a half of your portion of the share rate). We host the share and there is no difference in costs as far as nanny rate for us.

If the hours are equal, you each pay half. If you have unequal hours, you calculate based on whatever rates you've established with your nanny. The pros and cons of hosting more or less cancel themselves out, in my experience. You don't have to get your child ready and go anywhere, which is a luxury both for convenience and for time. But you do have another child in your house each day playing with toys, have to store gear, have more utility costs, etc.

No the hosting family does not pay less. However, the non host family should provide all their own things (diapers, formula, baby wipes etc). I’m in a nanny share and each family pays me $13/h.
