Six weeks before your start date is generally the best. But place the ad (if you are doing a care.com ad) a week ahead of the six weeks and make your posting absolutely specific. You will have about 200 responses so be prepared.

I started six weeks before I needed to go back to work. I found the right person towards the end of week five, and had two days of "training".

If you are looking on your own (no agency) about four to six weeks before you want the nanny to start - and she should start while you are still on leave so that everyone is comfortable when you leave for work that first day.
Good luck!

I am expecting my baby in august but I will have maternity leave until around mid November. When is a good time to start looking for nannies?
