They have asked me if I can work 6 days a week from 6 am to 8 pm Monday to Saturday. I told them I would get back to them, mainly because I don’t feel comfortable saying yes. MB is a stay at home mom so I regularly only woke 8–4 Monday to Friday. I feel like 14 hours is too much to ask for. I was thinking of suggesting I work from 6 am - 2 pm and I have a friend (who has filled in for before when I have needed a day off) who can work 2-8 pm. My charges are almost 4 and 2. Youngest one is amazing and never gives any problems. Older one can be a lot to handle and it’s really hard to deal with her mainly because she refuses to do anything. She does go to school from 9-2 Monday to Wednesday but I just think it’s too much of them to ask. Should I suggest to them my friend? To be honest I really don’t want to come for 14 hours for 2 weeks. Sounds horrid especially because the older one is a nightmare

I work 10.5 hrs and I am drained at the end of my shift. And I know how it can be working with a difficult child, you don’t want to passed your normal time and it doesn’t mean you love them any less. You providing them with a solution is perfect and I’m sure they will be happy and appreciate you making the effort to help them during this time.

Heck, the older child is in school for a good portion, so it shouldn’t be that hard anyway. If you can’t handle the older child, maybe tell the family that they need to find someone else permanently and look for another position with more manageable children? The child’s going to develop more independence and attitude, not less.
