If you don't want to - don't. But I have worked like that in the past and it isn't that bad - plus the extra money is wonderful!

Personally, I'd do it, no problem. I'd stash every extra dollar in savings for travel or whatever. If you don't need the money and don't have any savings goals, then by all means say no.

Hi there, op here and no that was not me. I saw that post too and I believe the OP would work 8:30-5. I stayed in my post I usually work 8-4. My MB is a SAHM and the other post was a WAHM

Are you the OP of the other thread, working more than your scheduled shift? The one that got beat up for presumably not paying taxes?

Be firm- say no I'm sorry I'm not available after 4.
Don't be wishy washy. You can mention you have a friend who might have late afternoon/evening availability if they can't find anyone else.

You’re not obligated to work beyond your shift so don’t beat yourself up. I know most nannies work at a maximum of 12 hrs per day so 14 hrs is A LOT! I work 10.5 hrs and I am drained at the end of my shift. And I know how it can be working with a difficult child, you don’t want to passed your normal time and it doesn’t mean you love them any less. You providing them with a solution is perfect and I’m sure they will be happy and appreciate you making the effort to help them during this time.

Op here, yes I am aware that most nannies work 9-10 + hours per day. I just find it sort of too much for me. I have bee worked for them passed 9 hours in one day, and by 8 hours I am ready to call it day and go home especially when I have the oldest all day.

Op here. They pay me $21/h. Anytime after 8 hours is OT at 1.5 the rate of $21 so $10.5+21= 31.5

Yeah, I think it’s great that you already have a solution prepared! I don’t see why not, as long as someone they know and trust is with the little ones. I would definitely offer that to them.

So, say so. They asked. They might have thought you'd be thrilled with the overtime. They will probably be happy that you have someone to fill in the extra time.

Just say "I am not available for those hours, but can split the shift with my friend Kim, who has covered for you before - I've already checked and she is available then. What I propose is working 6am - 2pm and Kim would take the 2-8pm shift. How does that sound to you?"
