Why can’t the relationship be repaired? I am still friends with both of our former nannies. One got married and moved away and the other had to quit for medical reasons.

What do you mean by "the relationship fell apart after you quit"? Are you still in touch or did you have an argument ?
If I were you, I'd tell her what you said here : you miss her, and you should get together more often. You can ask her if she's available for lunch on a weekend or something similar.

I’m sorry, OP. I never felt the loss of a friendship with a former employer but I know I would with my current employer.

My previous MB and I were very close but our relationship fell apart after I quit. I still miss her and I miss our talks, our revelry over mutual love for the children and how easy it was for us to communicate. I know things are not able to be repaired but I guess I just miss her as a friend. And I hope she’s doing well.
