According to their website, their nannies earn between 1K and 2K per week, and some have doctorates.

The photos are also a sea of white children. Actually, there aren't that many photos, so a pond of white children.

I don't know if they're a scam or not, but I'm not sure why you would need them if you can already offer $25-$35/hr.. You can pretty much command the field at that rate, and only agree to interview nannies who have degrees, extensive experience, portfolios, and a long list of references.

I contacted a sitter on care.com and she was amazing but she said she only worked through this girl Elle who would need to vet me. I spent a week trying to get in touch with Elle and dreaming about this incredible nanny. Once i connected with Elle, Anna emailed saying there had been a car accident involving the parents of the family she worked with and she was going to stay with them. I was so sad. I emailed Elle to say that anna wasnt avaibel and she said she'd help me for half her rate. Is this a scam??? Please tell me what you all know. xx

FYI parents, reputable agencies usually won’t contact you unless they are returning your call. Check with INA and APNA, and if they’ve never heard of the agency, steer clear!

I’m really curious to hear how you ran into Penelope & Co on care.com, since that is also how we encountered the company, and it is not really consistent with what the company says its model is—we thought it was a flukey thing for us, but if the scenario is similar, that would push me toward thinking it is a scam (as opposed to just a not-very-good service). -OP

OP here. Not a good experience. A little hesitant to get into too much detail here. We also found them through Care. Interesting. How did it come up for you?

Never heard of them in my 6+ years on this board or in the nanny searches (or short term placements) we've had.

Searched for past threads on Penelope and didn’t find anything.
