Generally, fewer nannies available would = wages rising for those who remain. But that assumes demand remains the same; if, in fact, 19:37 is right and people change over to daycare or other arrangements, it is probably moot. Fewer available nannies but also fewer potential employers.

That said, I do wonder how many nannies actually are undocumented. When we were looking (in an area with a reputation for having huge number of undocumented workers) we only encountered one. Everyone else was legal to work, even if they had immigrated to the U.S. The rate was not different enough for the one who was not legal to make a difference (and we couldn't do under the table for a variety of reasons anyway, so it was moot).

In places like Los Angeles, I think hourly wages would definitely rise.

I know there are a handful or racist nannies who prowl this page to attack ESL and non-native nannies. They must not be doing a very good job if they’re conferences about their own well-being.

Fewer nannies will raise the rates of all legal and American nannies - supply/demand.

But I really don't want that to happen. I don't know if the foreign nannies I know are undocumented or not but the vast majority are the most loving, kind women to their charges. Not great teachers but they really love their "kids".

In markets where people have a lot of money, they might go up some, but mostly what will happen is that people who can't afford to pay minimum wage or a little more will have to start doing those things themselves or choosing a lesser quality (daycare instead of nanny, lawn service instead of gardener, biweekly instead of weekly cleaners).
