I have Bounty paper towels in every bathroom and kitchen. Paper towels are clean and go in paper recycling. Communal hand towels, whether in kitchen or bathroom, are gross and disgusting. I actually saw someone blow their nose on one. Yuck!
OP, I would just bring my own roll of paper towels.

Wash your hands, open the door (with wet hands) and then, go wash your hands again, in the kitchen. That’s what I do. My family kids are always sick and the kids use the towels as well.

It's pretty normal to put a cloth hand towel out for communal use, and not something I would think twice about unless someone is actively ill. Hands should be clean when it's used and it should be washed regularly (we change ours out every 2-3 days, or more often if it's particularly humid in the house). I would just bring your own towel (or paper towels) if you're concerned.

Most of my family and friends have a basket on the counter with many small hand towels. Then there is a small laundry hamper. Some have two baskets on the counter, one marked clean and the other marked used or dirty.

If it bothers you why don't you bring your own paper towels to use. I'm sure you can figure out how to fix this issue on your own . Bring a few everyday from home in your purse to use.

I’m not sure I understand... wouldn’t hands be clean by the time they get to the towel? This topic has never come up between my pediatrician and me, and I feel like most houses I visit with a powder or guest bathroom have a communal hand drying towel. Assuming it is laundered regularly, it seems hygienic enough. But if it bothers you, you could ask them to stock paper towels either there or in the kitchen and wash your hands in the kitchen instead?

Disposable towels. Keep them on the floor if you have to but I am sure you can find room for them.

Only one small bathroom on the first floor with no room for paper towels. So I'm not able to dry my hands, even though I'm constantly washing them.
